Khayyam's Ruba'iyyat

Desire no gain from the world, with bliss you trade;
In good or bad times you need not wade;
Remain sedate so that the whirling Wheel
Would snap itself and blow us days it made.

Why wear our blissful heart in woeful ways?
And crush with stones of toils our blissful days?
Who knows what crops up from the hidden stores?
Hence we should love Him, sing our happy lays.

When yesterday is vanished in the past
And morrow lingers in the future vast
To neither give a thought but prize the hour
For that is all you have and time flies fast.

To seek and fetch what just you eat and wear,
Though not essential, may be thought as fair;
The rest is trash and needless, hence beware
You sell no life's assets to buy despair.

you are headed straight,
its ur self made fate,
a vision only some see,
ur focus, appreciate totally.

the mind is tuned,
with the Lord's sweet perfume,
bend it and mend it,
thats the way to the Infinite.

sing in His glory,
tell all his story,
drink in the nectar,
make Him the most important factor.

u r guided correct,
u shall not falter,
drown in divinity,

Khyyam is against action. It is so easy to say that sign off your mind from the action and toil not for it may destroy the bliss. But thats not fact ! overall one has to toil for one is responsible to one's family, to society and to the nation. One takes in as much as possible but when the time for giving back comes, we take refuge in spirituality quoting some philosophies. This is not done ! Toil hard, use every drop of blood to produce the maximum or at least match the cost of your consuption and if then you can leave it without claiming a single ounce of it, well you are spiritual! do not confuse philosophy with spirituality, rather avoid philosophy for one can justify anything ! Sairam!
Thanks for your thoughtful comments...and I really appreciate your enthusiastic response.

Yes, it is absolutely right spirituality is not philosophy. Philosophy is of the mind, spirituality of the spirit.

But neither philosophy nor spirituality can be used as justification for anything or repudiate. There is no absolute truth out there to justify or no absolute falsehood to abolish. All are our perceptions. And we nod our head in agreement when our perception is reflected in one piece of philosophy or one approach of spirituality.

Yes, one interpretation can certainly be the one is made out, that of renouncing action! The ancient as well as classical question, which even Krishna ventures to answer and convince. But, that is one interpretation of the above verses. The one I made out to be is not to be obsessed with either action or inaction, to be focussed on the eternal present, and instead of ranting about the past or raving about the future, enjoy the bounty of the now. To be in a state of being, rather than doing.
